Is Reiki a Type of Massage?

No. Reiki is also known as "hands-on healing", however it is not necessary to touch the body to transfer the Universal energy. Massage works with the manipulation of the physical body and reiki works with the manipulation of the energetic body. There is a hybrid called "reiki massage" available from some practitioners which incorporates elements of both.

Please note that Elkemy does not offer reiki massage at this time.

Is Reiki Healing for Both Men and Women?

Absolutely! I often get asked if all of my clients are women, but this type of healing is for everyone!

I have clients of both genders come to see me regularly as we are all in need of balancing and healing from time to time.

(Even animals can receive reiki healing!)

What Will My First Reiki Session Be Like?

Trying something new can cause hesitation and sometimes even some anxiety. I understand! So, to quieten the ego of the mind, here's what to expect in your first reiki session with me: You'll get cozy under warm blankets, there will be soft, relaxing music playing and candles burning (for two reasons-so I can see when writing notes down that have been guided by spirit and so I can light the sage and palo santo during the session without disturbing you) I will cover your eyes with an eye pillow to help you relax, unwind and tune in to how your body is feeling. From here I will intuitively choose crystals to put on your body and essential oils to put on my hands for enhanced healing throughout the session. I will then assess the energy of your body and balance your chakras using energy clearing techniques and traditional reiki symbols over your body. *Please note that I work with energetic aura (above the body) and rarely touch the physical body, with the exception sometimes of cradling the head and feet*

At the end of the session I will get you to do a small visualisation to allow you to come back into your body.

Then we will discuss the messages that have come through for you and suggestions on how to keep your chakras clear and balanced. I will also pull oracle cards intuitively for you at the end of the session as well. The written messages are yours to keep and I will send you photos of the cards and their descriptions as well to read in your own time.

Is Reiki a Type of Placebo Effect?

Reiki healing is not a placebo. Whilst it definitely helps to have an open and positive mindset about your reiki session, reiki is tangible, meaning you can feel the channeling of positive energy into your body. It is not reliant on clients "thinking" that it will help them. The energy will flow into them regardless*. Reiki practitioners place their hands on or above the affected areas of the body that need a boost, offering this energy and your body takes in the energy where it is most needed. How much reiki energy you receive is unlimited. It will freely flow into the client, depending on how much is needed at the time.

*Please note that if I am performing a distance healing I need to silently ask your soul for permission to perform reiki on you. If you do not believe in reiki healing your soul may refuse this request. If this occurs, you will not be charged and the session will not continue.

Do You Have to Be Spiritual or Religious to Receive Reiki?

No. Reiki is a type of spiritual practice (rei = spiritual and ki = vital energy), however, you do not need to have certain beliefs in order for this type of healing to work. You can think of it in a scientific way as it is simply the transfer of energy. Universal life force energy, or "chi energy" (to be more specific). You can feel the vibration of energy in your body and clients often feel a "heaviness, tingling or lightness" in their bodies during and after their session.

Do You Treat Patients With Severe Health Problems?

Absolutely! However, Elkemy is not an emergency service! If you are experiencing extreme discomfort physically or mentally please call the appropriate medical services.

Reiki will not override or interrupt the action of medical interventions, but will support you while you go through them. It can help to restore balance in body, mind, and spirit and ignites your body's natural healing mechanisms. People who feel well, even when fighting chronic illness, are more likely to complete their medical treatment and be active partners in their health care.

Energy medicine, like reiki, aims to help the flow of energy and remove blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure. Improving the flow of energy around the body, can enable relaxation, reduce pain, speed healing, and reduce other symptoms of illness.

What Is Smudging?

Smudging is the ancient practice of using herbs and plants to cleanse a room, building or aura with smoke.

Over time, we all accumulate negative vibrations. Regular smudging can clear negative energies from the body and from our space. The herbs most commonly used in smudge sticks are sage, cedar, sweetgrass, and lavender. You can buy smudge sticks for your own personal use after your reiki session from crystal stores, online and some health food stores.

What Is Medical Clairvoyance?

The definition of clairvoyance is: the ability to gain information about an object, person, location, or physical event through extrasensory perception.

Medical clairvoyance is the ability to gain an understanding (in the form of visions, spirit messages, empathically feeling your pain or illness) to get some further understanding about why you are experiencing the symptoms you are. I will use reiki, crystals, essential oils and smudging to bring the body into balance and I will get spirit messages for you to further heal yourself after our sessions (physical activities, emotional links to the issue, crystal recommendations, flower essence recommendations, colour therapy, lifestyle changes etc).
